What are the Top 5 Problems Lamborghini Murcielago Owners are Complaining About?

The launch of the Lamborghini Murcielago shortly after the new millennium was was a pivotal moment in the history of this iconic car manufacturer as it had to follow win the footsteps of its illustrious predecessor, the Diablo.

If you were looking to tick plenty of boxes on must-have list the Murcielago achieved that aim with a car that set new trends in terms of body style and engineering accomplishments.

The model boasted a 0-60 mph of just 3.4 seconds and the top speed of 205 mph would certainly get your pulse racing but you can’t realistically expect any car to be absolutely perfect and as well as its obvious plus points this offering has become renowned for a few regular issues that owners seem to experience.

Here is a look at the main problems to look out for if you are tempted by the Murcielago’s magnetism but want to know what might need fixing if you own one.

Faulty brake switch can lead to transmission problems

You should be aware that the brake switch has been known to relay false information to the car’s computer system by telling it that the brake pedal is being pushed down when that’s not what’s happening.

This can lead to the transmission being frozen and if that happens you won’t be able to change gear.

Be wary of an expensive clutch replacement

A feature of the Murcielago is its E-gear system and some owners have discovered to their cost that the technology is not as great as you might expect, meaning your car is heavily reliant on one single clutch.

The problem to be wary of is if your clutch needs replacing the labor bill could require you to have deep pockets because the engine has to come out to replace the clutch.

Watch out for the roof with roadster

If you have a soft-top roadster you might get a bit frustrated by the design of the waterproof cover.

The complaint is that it is not a great fit and can be a challenge to install, so you might not want to try and get it fitted if the rain is pouring down.

You will need to learn how to work the hydraulic suspension

A feature of the suspension system is that it requires the vehicle to be allowed to run for at least 30 seconds in order to create a proper vacuum and the hydraulics are ready to work before you put the car through its paces.

If this warm-up is not observed it could result in an insufficient vacuum and that can create problems with power steering fluid leaking, affecting the steering and overall performance as a result.

Engine misfire caused by defective coil packs

The early Murcielago’s were notably blighted by faulty coil packs that allowed water to cause corrosion to spark plugs and coil packs.

The consequences of this leak is an engine misfire scenario and an RPM that is a bit unpredictable.

Find out whether the coil pack has been upgraded if you are looking at a 2002 or 2003 Murcielago.

These are not necessarily issues that might dissuade you from owning a Lamborghini Murcielago but it is worth knowing what you might end up paying out for other than servicing and regular maintenance.
