It is always good to see car manufacturers working together to reach new heights. The 10 standalone manufacturers under the Stellantis umbrella are proving that two is always better than one. Although the Stellantis conglomerate, which has become the 4th largest vehicle manufacturer in the world, is a single entity, the group vows that each sub-brand will have full liberty to improve themselves.
As such Alfa Romeo, Lancia, and DS have promised to join hands to develop new models in full cooperation with each other. The three manufacturers will jointly develop a series of vehicles that they will release in 2024. The trio will work on the drivetrain and technology fronts, making them stand out amongst their Stellantis sister sub-brands.
“We are working with our Italian colleagues on specific premium modules, powertrains, and features to differentiate the premium brands from the mainstream brands,” said Marion David who is the Senior Vice President of Product Management at DS.
The Italian and French collaboration of the three companies will start once the currently scheduled models are released. The cooperation starts once the cars currently in development roll out of factories and the planning for the next generation begins.
The internal grouping might prove fruitful for Stellantis as an entity. We might even see the brand creeping up and taking the third spot in the world production rankings. The Stellantis brand has renowned manufacturers as its subsidiaries. It is made up of the likes of Citroen, Peugeot, Chrysler, Opel, Dodge, Maserati, Vauxhall, Fiat, and Comau among others.
The partnership between Lancia, Alfa Romeo, and DS might seem doubtful to some for a few reasons. Lancia only sells a single vehicle and that too in Italy, They do not have a wide range of cars but they were popular enough to outsell the likes of Alfa Romeo in Europe. If things go right, the partnership could work out to be beneficial.
