Parting with the old, makes room for the new. DAV vehicle donor Jim Byrnes and grandson enjoying their new set of wheels.
We know you’ve developed a relationship with your car, motorcycle or truck. But there comes a time when it’s best to say goodbye—and you can feel good about it by donating your vehicle to DAV (Disabled American Veterans). That’s what Jim Byrnes did. “The vehicle I donated was my favorite,” says Jim, who donated his beloved Range Rover to DAV’s vehicle donation program. “Writing a check is one thing, but giving up a car that you’re going to give up anyway – I like to think of it as ‘found’ money for an organization, and service organizations are worthy.” Your gift can help fulfill the promise our nation made to our veterans and earn a tax break for you. Here’s how to do it:
1. Call or Submit the Online Form
Call DAV toll free at (855) 937-7227 or visit Vehicles4DAV.com, seven days a week or submit the secure online form. All vehicles are considered! DAV accepts cars, trucks, RVs, motorcycles, trailers, boats, campers, off-road vehicles, heavy equipment, and most other motorized vehicles— whether they’re running or not.
2. Schedule Your Free Pick-up
Choose best time that works for you! DAV’s Donor Support Representatives will arrange to have a licensed tow company pick up your vehicle. They can pick up your vehicle just about anywhere in the United States within 72 hours of completing the donation.
3. Tax Benefits
Most vehicle donations qualify for a tax deduction. When your vehicle is picked up, the driver will provide you with an initial donation receipt. You may claim as a tax deduction the fair market value of your vehicle up to $500 on your donation even if your vehicle sells for less. If your vehicle sells for over $500, DAV will provide a 1098-C IRS form which will allow you to claim the full sale price.
