Nissan’s Next X-terra Points to V6 Debut with Hybrid Coming After

Nissan is making another go round with the X-terra and new information released at the 2026 New York International Auto Show is indicating an expanded powertrain strategy than initially indicated. The reintroduced SUV, now projected to come in 2028, now seems to be heading towards two mechanical choices, with an internal combustion model coming first, followed by a hybrid model added to the lineup.

Ponz Pandikuthira, senior vice president and chief product and planning officer for Nissan Americas, told Car and Driver the project keeps a pure gasoline variant in development. “There will be a pure ICE,” he said. He then narrowed the layout further. “If we do ICE only, it will be V6, it won’t be a four-cylinder turbo.”

Earlier talk had linked the third generation X-terra to an EV-only path, with production tied to Nissan’s Canton, Mississippi, plant from 2028. Those plans changed after the federal EV tax incentive disappeared last year. The body-on-frame SUV then shifted toward an electrified route built around combustion support rather than full battery propulsion.

A hybrid version is still part of the program, though Nissan has not fixed the timing. Pandikuthira described the sequence in plain terms. “Then we can build a hybrid off that.” He added, “What does that hybrid execution look like when it debuts? How many months after the ICE version? One likely mechanical link sits with the pickup side of the business. Nissan already offers a 3.8 liter V6 in the Frontier, and the next X-terra is expected to share architecture with the next Frontier generation. The report notes a V6 route instead of the turbocharged four-cylinder formula used by Toyota rivals. Ford also enters the comparison, since the 3.0 liter EcoBoost in higher Bronco grades was mentioned as a reference point.

Design direction came up too. Pandikuthira said buyers should expect “a lot of those very tough, in-your-face design cues.” He had recently seen the vehicle in Japan as a full foam mockup, which suggests the visual program has already moved beyond sketches.

Nissan needs traction in North America. During the first quarter, Nissan Group deliveries in the US fell 7.5% to 247k units. More than 234k of those came from Nissan itself, where the decline reached 7.7%.

Porsche Opens Orders for the 911 GT3 90 F.A., with Just 89 Cars Still Available

Porsche has just announced the availability of one of its newest and rarest variants based on its 992-generation GT3 Touring. Technically, the new car is still very similar to the usual offerings from the existing catalog of Porsche. The 2027 911 GT3 90 F. A. was unveiled on December 11, 2025, and designed as an homage to Ferdinand Alexander Porsche in honor of his 90th birthday.

Production will stop at 90 examples, but one is no longer part of that number for buyers. Porsche has already handed over the first car to Mark, the youngest son of Ferdinand Alexander, leaving 89 units for customers once order books open at the start of April.

Under the rear section, nothing changes mechanically. Compared with the stock GT3, the engine remains basically unchanged; we are dealing here with a naturally-aspirated boxer engine with a whopping 501 horsepower and 331 lb-ft of torque.

A few details are unusually specific. The Sport Chrono clock was redesigned to resemble the Chronograph 1 once created for F. A. Porsche, and the shift lever now uses open-pore walnut. On the dashboard trim, there is a gold plaque showing the silhouette of the original 911, a one-of-90 marking, and a reproduction of F. A. Porsche’s signature.

As for prices, the 911 GT3 90 F.A. costs no less than $387,000, before fees or taxes. Buyers are also invited to Zell am See for what Porsche calls a “unique product consultation” with Sonderwunsch before production begins in mid-2026.

Each owner also receives a Porsche Design travel bag and an exclusive Chronograph 1 derived from the Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition launched in 2022. The watch features a black hypoallergenic titanium case, may be ordered with either a black titanium bracelet or a leather strap, and carries laser engravings beneath the caseback for the matching production number and F.A.’s signature. Super-LumiNova treatment gives the hands and indices an aged appearance, while the initials of F. A. Porsche replaced the usual logo at 3 o’clock.

DarwinPro Aero Gives Ferrari Purosangue a Carbon-Fiber Makeover Without Touching the V12

Ferrari’s Purosangue is already a strange object in the market, and not in a bad way. It is a high-riding machine with a naturally aspirated V12, numbers that embarrass many lower cars, and styling that does not really need help to stand out. Even so, the tuning world never leaves these things alone for long. This latest example comes from DarwinPro Aero, which has prepared a visual package for the Prancing Horse crossover while apparently leaving the mechanical side alone.

That part matters, actually. Ferrari may still be working toward a hotter version of the Purosangue, with a report claiming production could begin in the second half of the year. So anyone wanting a more aggressive take on the model has two roads in front of them: wait for Maranello, or go aftermarket now. DarwinPro Aero is clearly speaking to the second group.

The company calls the package the IMP Design Carbon Fiber Soft Kit. It does not rewrite the entire car, but it does add enough pieces to alter the look from several angles. The list includes a front aero treatment, extended side skirts, a new diffuser at the rear, and a roof wing said to be functional. It is a relatively focused set of changes. Not small, exactly, though not the sort of conversion that turns the Purosangue into something unrecognizable either.

The example shown by the tuner wears gray paint and mixes in black details across the body. There also appear to be exposed carbon-fiber elements, which is more or less expected with a package presented this way. Ferrari’s usual badges remain in place at the nose and on the fenders, and the SUV rides on five-spoke alloy wheels that look fairly restrained compared with the rest of the treatment. Behind them sit yellow brake calipers, which break up the darker theme nicely.

And no, there is no indication here that DarwinPro Aero has gone after the engine. That is worth stressing because the standard Purosangue hardly arrives underpowered. In factory form, it reaches 62 mph (100 kph) in 3.3 seconds, continues to 217 mph (350 kph), and uses a 6.5-liter naturally aspirated engine rated at 715 brake horsepower (533 kW/725 ps) and 528 pound-feet (716 Nm) of torque. Those figures stay exactly where they are, at least based on what is shown here.

So this build is really about appearance, not output. Whether that is enough depends on taste. Personally, I can see the appeal; then again, the untouched car already has a strong identity of its own. DarwinPro Aero just offers a sharper suit for buyers who were never going to leave their Purosangue stock anyway.

DS No. 7 Debuts as a French Premium SUV With Long Range, Tech-Heavy Cabin, and BMW GLA Rivals in Sight

DS Automobiles has taken the wraps off the No. 7, the model now stepping in for the DS 7, once known as France’s former presidential car. For DS, the launch comes at a useful time, as it faced a lot of challenges in 2025, with the outgoing DS7 sales dropping by roughly 24%, meaning around 14,000 units sold.

Now, it seems that their model is making a comeback as a premium French SUV, aimed to rival the likes of the X1 from BMW or Mercedes-Benz`s new GLA; and that`s because of new features that the French carmaker is putting into the SUV: long range, tech-heavy cabin, and exterior new design lines. Thus, the company is clearly hoping this new “First Class” SUV can do what the No. 8 and No. 4 could not.

The car`s design traces back to the concept shown at the Geneva Motor Show in 2020, with DS pointing to the roofline in particular, which flows into a spoiler above the tailgate. There are also rounded surfaces and a standout shoulder line that really highlight the car`s new personality.

As for exterior paint jobs, the No.7 can be had with a choice of six colors, like Silk Green, Palladium Grey, Alabaster White, Topas Blue, Perla Nera Black, and Crystal Pearl. As for wheels, sizes are available up to 21 inches.

The electric range is broad. The front-wheel-drive Long Range version uses a single motor delivering 242 horsepower (245 metric horsepower), or 276 horsepower (280 with Boost), and pairs it with a 97.2-kWh battery pack built in northern France. Installed in the floor, it preserves legroom and allows up to 460 miles (740 kilometers) of range. The all-wheel-drive Long Range model raises output to 345 horsepower (350 metric horsepower), or 370 horsepower (375 metric horsepower) with Boost, while range stands at 422 miles (679 kilometers). It also covers 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 kph) in 5.4 seconds. Another version, the FWD E-Tense, uses a 73.7-kWh battery, returns 337 miles (543 kilometers), and produces 227 horsepower (230 metric horsepower) or 256 horsepower (260 metric horsepower) with Boost engaged.

Then there is the equipment list. The active suspension reads the road with a windshield-mounted camera and adjusts each shock absorber through a motorized solenoid valve within milliseconds. DS PIXELVISION combines adaptive headlights, pivoting main beams, cornering lighting, and glare-free high beams, with a reach of 400 meters (1,312 feet). Add level 2 driver assistance, night vision, a digital rearview mirror, a head-up display, the Neck Warmer, and Focal’s Electra 3D audio system with 14 speakers and a 690-Watt amplifier, and the No. 7 does not exactly arrive empty-handed. Order books are already open, with the first version offered being the E-Tense with 230 horsepower at 64,200 euros, or $74,075.
